Mission & Goals

The Dr. Y.R. Sarma Memorial Trust (264/IV/2021) is instituted collectively by his family, friends, colleagues and students to fulfil the vision and to sustain fond memories of Dr. Y. R. Sarma, an eminent plant pathologist who was well known for his down to earth nature, far sightedness and scientific objectivity. The Memorial Trust was launched on 19 May 2018 by Prof. Appa Rao Podile, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor of University of Hyderabad and intends to promote scientific temperament in spices and plantation crops sector by honouring scientists, researchers and students who excel in Plant Pathology research as well as farmers who succeed in protecting their crops against pests and diseases by their scientific interventions.

• To institute and maintain an Endowment Fund from his well-wishers, friends and acquaintances for supporting the envisaged activities of the Trust.
• To organize the ‘Dr. Y.R. Sarma Memorial Lecture’ during May-June every year for the benefit of scientists, researchers, students and farmers
• To institute the ‘Dr Y R Sarma Memorial Awards’ for outstanding contribution in plant pathology of spices and plantation crops (once in five years) and ‘Best Thesis Award’ for a research scholar working on diseases of spices and plantation crops (once in three years)
• To reward farmers (preferably small and medium farmer with predominantly spice crops) for successfully implementing plant protection technologies in their fields (once in two years)
